Privacy Policy for the JCC of Central New Jersey

Effective Date: September 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the JCC of Central New Jersey (“JCC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, safeguards, discloses, and otherwise processes information obtained from individuals (“Users” or “you”) who visit or interact with our website and related services (collectively, the “Site”). This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with applicable federal and state privacy laws, including the New Jersey Data Privacy Act, N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.4 et seq. (the “NJDPA”), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), and other applicable regulations. By continuing to use our Site, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please refrain from using the Site.

Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of personal data, as defined under applicable law, depending on how you interact with our Site and services:

Identifiers: Name, postal address, email address, phone number, and similar contact information.

Financial Information: Payment card details, billing address, and transaction history, if you make payments or donations through our Site.

Internet or Other Electronic Network Activity Information: Browser type and version, operating system, internet service provider, IP address, referring/exit pages, clickstream data, and other usage data collected automatically when you visit our Site.

Geolocation Data: Approximate location derived from your IP address or, with your consent, more precise location data from your device.

Demographic Information: Age, gender, and other demographic details you may voluntarily provide when registering for programs, completing surveys, or filling out forms.

Sensitive Personal Data: We generally do not collect sensitive personal data as defined under the NJDPA. If we do collect such data in the future (such as data revealing racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, health diagnoses, sexual orientation, citizenship or immigration status, genetic or biometric data, personal data of a known child, or precise geolocation data), we will obtain your consent before processing and update this Privacy Policy accordingly.

Methods of Collection

We collect information through the following methods:

Directly from You: When you register for an account, fill out forms, subscribe to our newsletter, sign up for programs or events, make a purchase or donation, participate in a survey, or otherwise voluntarily submit information to us through the Site. Submitting personal information is always voluntary; however, choosing not to provide certain information may limit your ability to access specific Site features or services.

Automatically: When you visit or interact with our Site, we may automatically collect certain non-personal and technical information through cookies, web beacons, pixels, log files, and similar tracking technologies. This includes information about your browser, device, operating system, IP address, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit.

From Third Parties: We may receive information about you from third-party sources, such as analytics providers, advertising networks, social media platforms, or publicly available databases, which we may combine with information we collect directly.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our Site may use “cookies” and similar tracking technologies (such as web beacons, pixels, and local storage) to enhance your experience, analyze Site usage, and support our operations. Cookies are small data files placed on your device that help us recognize you, remember your preferences, and understand how you interact with our Site. We use the following types of cookies:

Essential Cookies: Necessary for the Site to function properly, such as enabling navigation and access to secure areas.

Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how Users interact with our Site by collecting information about pages visited, time spent, and errors encountered.

Functional Cookies: Allow the Site to remember your preferences and provide enhanced features.

Advertising and Targeting Cookies: Used to deliver relevant advertisements and measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. These cookies may be placed by third-party advertising partners.

You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent. You may also opt out of certain third-party cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) opt-out page or the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) opt-out page. Please note that disabling cookies may affect the functionality of certain features of the Site.

Google Analytics and Interest-Based Advertising

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC (“Google”), to analyze how Users interact with our Site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect and analyze information about Site usage, compile reports, and provide related services. Google may also use collected data to contextualize and personalize ads within its advertising network. Our Site may also use Google’s Interest-Based Advertising or third-party audience data (such as demographics and interests) to better understand our audience. You may opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on, available at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. For more information on Google’s privacy practices, please visit Google’s Privacy Policy.

Purpose of Collection and Use

We may use the information we collect for the following purposes:

To operate, maintain, and improve our Site and services, including personalizing your experience and providing content relevant to your interests.

To process registrations, enrollments, purchases, donations, and other transactions you initiate.

To respond to your inquiries, requests, and customer service needs.

To send periodic emails, text messages, or other communications, including newsletters, promotional materials, and updates about our programs and events. You can unsubscribe from non-transactional communications at any time by following the instructions included in each message.

To conduct research, analysis, and surveys to improve our programs, services, and outreach.

To detect, prevent, and address fraud, security incidents, and other harmful or unauthorized activities.

To comply with applicable legal obligations, enforce our terms and policies, and protect our rights and the rights of others.

We will not collect additional categories of personal data or use personal data for purposes materially different from those disclosed in this Privacy Policy without providing you with notice. Our collection, use, and processing of personal data is limited to what is reasonably necessary and proportionate to the purposes disclosed above, consistent with data minimization principles under applicable law.

Disclosure and Sharing of Personal Information

We do not sell personal data as defined under the NJDPA. We do not share mobile opt-in data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may disclose your personal data to the following categories of third parties for the business purposes described in this Privacy Policy:

Service Providers: Third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as payment processing, email delivery, website hosting, data analytics, and marketing assistance. These providers are contractually obligated to use personal information only as necessary to perform services for us and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Affiliates and Partners: We may share aggregated, de-identified demographic data—which does not include personal identifiers—with trusted affiliates or business partners to help us improve our programs and services.

Legal and Regulatory Authorities: We may disclose personal information when required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a law enforcement request.

Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or similar transaction, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change in ownership or control of your personal information.

Your Right to Opt Out

Under the NJDPA, you have the right to opt out of the processing of your personal data for purposes of: (a) targeted advertising; (b) the sale of personal data; or (c) profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you. As stated above, we do not currently sell personal data or process personal data for targeted advertising or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. If our practices change in the future, we will clearly and conspicuously disclose such processing and provide a mechanism for you to opt out. We honor user-selected universal opt-out mechanisms, including the Global Privacy Control (GPC), as required by N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.11.

Your Privacy Rights Under New Jersey Law

Under the New Jersey Data Privacy Act (N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.10), consumers have the following rights with respect to their personal data:

Right to Confirm and Access: You have the right to confirm whether we process your personal data and to access such personal data.

Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete personal data we have collected or maintain about you, subject to certain exceptions permitted by law.

Right to Correct: You have the right to request that we correct inaccuracies in your personal data, taking into account the nature of the data and the purposes of processing.

Right to Data Portability: You have the right to obtain a copy of your personal data in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily usable format that allows you to transmit the data to another entity without hindrance.

Right to Opt Out: You have the right to opt out of the processing of your personal data for purposes of: (a) targeted advertising; (b) the sale of personal data; or (c) profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.

Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your opt-out rights or any other rights under the NJDPA. We will not increase the cost of, or decrease the availability of, any product or service based solely on the exercise of your rights.

How to Submit a Request: To exercise any of the rights described above, you may submit a request by contacting us using the information provided in the “Contact Information” section below. You may use an existing account to submit a verified request, but we will not require you to create a new account to exercise your rights. We will respond to your request within forty-five (45) days of receipt. If we decline to take action on your request, we will inform you of the justification for our decision and provide instructions on how to appeal. If your appeal is denied, we will provide you with a method to contact the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs to submit a complaint.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, as described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. In determining retention periods, we consider the nature and sensitivity of the information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, the purposes for which we process the information, whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and applicable legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or other requirements. When personal information is no longer needed for any legitimate business or legal purpose, we will securely delete or de-identify it.

Consent and Revocation

Where we rely on your consent to process personal data (including sensitive personal data), you have the right to revoke that consent at any time. We will provide an effective mechanism for revocation that is at least as easy to use as the mechanism by which you provided your consent. Upon receiving your revocation, we will cease processing the applicable personal data as soon as practicable, but no later than fifteen (15) days after receipt of your request, as required by N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.12(6).

Security Measures

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorized or illegal access, destruction, use, modification, or disclosure. These measures include, but are not limited to, encryption of sensitive data in transit and at rest, access controls limiting who can view personal data, regular security assessments and audits, and employee training on data protection practices. Our data security practices are appropriate to the volume and nature of the personal data at issue, as required by N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.12. While we strive to protect your personal data, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Protection Assessments

Where we engage in processing activities that present a heightened risk of harm to consumers, we conduct and document data protection assessments as required by N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.12(9). These assessments evaluate the benefits of the processing to us, to the consumer, to other stakeholders, and to the public against the potential risks to the rights of the consumer, with safeguards that can be employed to reduce such risks.

Children’s Privacy

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. Our Site is not directed to children under the age of thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, as required by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) (15 U.S.C. § 6502). If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take prompt steps to delete such data from our records. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided personal data to us without your consent, please contact us using the information provided in the “Contact Information” section below so that we can take appropriate action. Parents have the right to review the personal data collected from their child, request its deletion, and refuse to permit further collection or use of the child’s data.

For programs or services offered by the JCC that are directed to children, we will comply with all applicable COPPA requirements, including providing direct notice to parents, obtaining verifiable parental consent before collecting any personal data from a child, and allowing parents to review, delete, or withdraw consent for the continued collection of their child’s data. We will not condition a child’s participation in any activity on the disclosure of more personal data than is reasonably necessary to participate in that activity. Additionally, under N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.12(7), we will not process the personal data of a consumer we know or willfully disregard to be at least 13 years of age but younger than 17 years of age for purposes of targeted advertising, sale of personal data, or profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects, without that consumer’s consent.

Third-Party Websites

Our Site may contain links to websites operated by third parties, such as sponsors, advertisers, partners, or social media platforms, whose privacy practices may differ from ours. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party website you visit. Any interaction with third-party websites is governed by their respective privacy policies and terms of use, and not by this Privacy Policy.

Universal Opt-Out Mechanisms

Under N.J. Stat. § 56:8-166.11, if we process personal data for purposes of targeted advertising or the sale of personal data, we are required to allow consumers to exercise their right to opt out through a user-selected universal opt-out mechanism. We honor opt-out preference signals that are consumer-friendly, clearly described, and easy to use, including the Global Privacy Control (GPC). Such mechanisms will not make use of default settings that opt consumers into data processing without affirmative, freely given, and unambiguous consent.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on our Site with a revised effective date and, where appropriate, by providing additional notice (such as sending an email or displaying a prominent notice on our Site). We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of those changes.

Your Acceptance of These Terms

By using this Site, you signify your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not use our Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes to this Privacy Policy will be deemed your acceptance of those changes.
